Police and Crime Commissioners (PCCs) should be abolished and replaced by a new system, a review of policing in England and Wales has said.

The review led by ex-Met Police Commissioner Lord Stevens said PCCs, introduced in 2012, should be scrapped in 2016 and more power given to local councillors and local authorities.

Anthony Stansfeld is the Police and Crime Commissioner for Thames Valley Police. He is the first person to hold the post and was elected on 15 November 2012 as the Conservative Party candidate.

You can read full details of the report which includes other recommendations on the following website:

For some strange reason those who follow this link to the "Independent" Police Commission website will be greeted by the following pop-up:

I'd agree with letting PCC role disappear.  Nice idea; but those elected turned it into a huge flop and demonstrated it was simply a means of rewarding political cronies.

The rest is pure Labour!  Making the Police a profession? What a hoot!  They simply need to take their oath seriously and have a size 12 fitted where it hurts when they don't

I have no confidence in Mr Stansfeld. He was useless as a councillor, he is even worse as our Police and Crime Commissioner.

Jobs for the boys and a salary of £85,000 to boot. How can this figure be justified?
