Newbury - Major disruption on the A339 at the Swan Roundabout

Resurfacing of the roundabout at the junction of the A339 and the B4640 is expected to cause major problems over the weekend. (14th and 15th June 2014)

Access to and from the roundabout for the B4640 (Newtown Straight) will be closed for the entire duration of the road works (Friday 13th June at 7.00pm until Monday 16th June at 6.00am) Signed diversions will be in place.

Temporary traffic lights will be in place on the Swan Roundabout whilst resurfacing work takes place.

The South section of the roundabout is to be resurfaced on Saturday June 14th from 7.00am with work likely to be completed by mid afternoon. The traffic lights will be left in place overnight to allow time for the material to cure.

The traffic lights will then be reversed on Sunday June 15th and work to resurface the North section of the roundabout will take place from 7.00am. The lights will again be left in place overnight for the material to cure.

The roundabout and access to the B4640 will reopen completely at 6.00am on Monday 16th June.

This could cause considerable problems for Newbury residents using the recycling facilities on Newtown Road (Normally you have to circumnavigate this roundabout and come back up the hill to access the tip).  It has been suggested that you will be diverted along the A339 to the next roundabout (Ecchinswell turning) and then have to come back adding an extra 3 miles to your journey.
