Newbury - A view from the East before the Ring Road was built in the early 60's




This amazing photograph (copyright David Canning) has just appeared on a local Facebook group. The picture shows a view from the banks of the Kennet, looking towards Newbury from the East. Victoria Park is behind the trees  and you can see the wartime Tank Traps behind the weir. To the left of the picture is the "American" Bridge, the Bus Station in its original home in the Wharf and edge of the picture the Stone Building.

Today there is a very large concrete structure in the way which carries the traffic on the A339 (previously the A34)
