Newbury - GWR Diesel Railcar heading out of Newbury on the Lambourn Valley Line.

GWR Diesel Railcar heading out of Newbury on the Lambourn Valley Line. The GWR (Great Western Railway) introduced diesel railcars to cut operating costs on quiet branch lines.

The bridge that you can see in the distance is Blackboys Bridge and the houses are the rear of St Michaels Road. The building on the right hand side was James the timber merchants. This building was destroyed by one of these mysterious fires that we get from time to time.

Did I miss a date !!!  When was this photo taken?

According to the note on the back of the photograph, it was Monday 1st August 1955, which I think in those days was Bank Holiday Monday.
