Newbury taxi stolen in Bartholomew Street with a child inside.

On Wednesday 18th December, a taxi was stolen from outside Hethertons Bakery in Bartholomew Street. The opportunist thief obviously didn't realise that there was a child on the back seat. He abandoned the vehicle very quickly in Prospect Place, Just off of St. John's Road.

As far as we are aware no one has been apprehended for this offence. The mother who was in the bakery at the time was obviously very distressed.

Update:

Thames Valley Police has charged a man in relation to an incident of aggravated vehicle taking in Newbury.

Kevin Edmonds, aged 48, of Roundfield, Upper Bucklebury, was charged on 23 December with aggravated vehicle taking, driving while disqualified and using a motor vehicle on a road/public place without third party insurance.

The charges relate to an incident in Bartholomew Street, Newbury, on 18 December in which a black Peugeot containing a child was taken and driven before being abandoned nearby. The child was unharmed.

Edmonds was released on bail to appear at Newbury Magistrates' Court on 9 January.
