Got something to say? / Re: Dog fouling of footpaths

I'd suggest anyone littering or fouling should be prosecuted.  Let's get the Council Wardens handing out tickets too; the state of round here in Newbury suggests if they did that, they'd be a profit centre rather than a cost. >:(

True, but at least shogs dit washes away and rots down unlike fag packets, coke cans etc.etc.etc.  Whilst on the subject, what species of idiot collects it in a doggy bag, ties it up and then leaves that or throws it on a hedge?  Those who do that need treatment more than a fine;  must be the sort of people you see on reality tv shows who collect it.

Yes, I can remember that too!  Being picked up and doing the same myself; always a bit of a bind really, plus you had to try and find some pleasant conversation.  I suppose I'm much like the rest, moan about the traffic, but in reality, so long as I can get to work, sitting on my own, listening to what I want, lost in my own thoughts isn't too much of a burden.  I work out of Newbury these days at various locations, tbh, even in rush hour I prefer the car to the train - you actually get to sit down and don't have some git eating his burger and dropping bits on your coat!  Anyway, compared to Southern Cal, where I was for a couple of years, Newbury has a long way to go before it experiences real jams.  My view; just relax and enjoy!

Oh come on boys and girls, that's just nit picking!  Does anyone really rip up the second envelope if a sender just happens to have dispatched two on the same day?  We can cope with the lottery and even the pools aren't that difficult!  Frankly, this is exactly what gets me about some politicians; they assume the electors are as daft as they are.

Good to see a respectable turnout; and no one can say we didn't have a reasonable choice.

Actually, if people did vote for Councillors along party lines they only have themselves to blame.  It's these very councillors who have traditionally rejected out of hand any suggestion that there should be and there is no need for political affiliation in local Government.  I'm also far from convinced those 'who work tirelessly year after year' should simply get a free pass.  The state of our local councils, the town in particular, suggests some have indeed been working, perhaps tirelessly, for a long time, but to no real effect.  Yes, time for a change and yes, we really do need to see some young blood.

Hang around No.6, you aren't alone by any means!  Politics seems to have descended to huckster selling these days, one step short of  'vote for me and you'll get a free plastic toy'. We are being treated like poor uneducated hicks - just believe the huckster and his toadies and we'll be rich, or at least they will.

I suppose we have a free press who can print what they choose.  So presumably, if any other party chooses to pay, they'd let them do exactly the same.  I'd suggest that the biggest issue with this is that it raises the stakes for any minor party or independent.  However as print newspaper sales are dropping, it might not do them much good anyway.

That's a pretty generous solution from the pub; any reaction from the school?
101
Why?  There are two commercially operated gyms in close proximity.  Is this part of a secret plan to make the park just an urban street so it can be built on?  £20 grand found 'just like that' ... Who says public service expenditure had been cut to the bone!
102
That's actually quite sensible.  Improving productivity in a declining market without really damaging service over much.  Makes a change from stopping the service altogether or jacking up the price to unaffordable levels.

I wouldn't be surprised because these days it would be pretty difficult to make a traditional pub work at that site.  Newbury could probably go with another Carvery type pub - but that would mean a biggish change and would the neighbours like that too much? I can't see why the Council is the landlord anyway, presumably a hang over from the Council House days.

The issue with school run mums using the car park is separate really.  Why should they? Even if the Council own the land, that doesn't give them any 'rights' to park there, if it does, I'll leave my motor in Viccy Park next time I'm in town.  Actually, I've every sympathy with the Mums, but it's the schools that need to get their act together.  Why haven't they put in drop off points etc., they have enough land. Now a consistent failure to do that is boneheaded planning for sure.

With the present road layout this would be simply daft.  It would cause bus delays going in and out, let alone a significant disruption to taxis and car park drop offs.  It's just the political grandstanding we've come to expect from the GlibDems; just making a noise for the sake of it.

The real answer (against the town's geography and present limited bus provision) would be to put in the scheme the developer has suggested, a straight flat footpath from the station to proper road side stops in Market Street.

For a graphic illustration of the nonsenses we get when politicians 'design' the bus routes, just go on the Black bus to Reading.  Through narrow estate roads in Thatcham, trying to negotiate humps and badly parked cars. A new junction for the Hospital installed - which the bus finds difficult to negotiate.  The route goes in and out, necessitating some difficult driving, when straight through is practical and possible.  No wonder it takes so long!

Do the Councillors ever use the busses?  Shouldn't think so.

Could the Council get hold of a few willing wheelchair users, after all they are quite willing to use fifteen and a half year old girls to trap harassed shop assistants into selling them fags!
