Title: Table Tennis demise
Post by: Uncle on January 05, 2014, 08:01:10 pm
As a lad,I played the noble game, practiced till good enough to make junior county team....and Newbury seniors.....some trophies picked up along the way,Sterling Cables Open....Thatcham ,Kennet school tourneys...and at that time, 8 leagues of 12 teams! Now,it is just 3 leagues, and not a single club from Newbury to be seen! Thatcham has still kept the faith, with several teams, young and not so young! Wessex social club was a multi team club, but Waitrose crushed them, and they dropped the game to accommodate golf. All gone,now...Lloyds...Newbury Community Centre...Plentys...GPO....Guildhall....Methodist church....Boys Club....and it's still called  NEWBURY ( and district) TABLETENNIS LEAGUE.
