Got something to say? / 'Steam Railway' magazines
April 13, 2015, 01:03:38 pm
I have discovered 5 copies of Steam Railway magazine from March to July 1992, plus Waterloo Sunset, about the 25th anniversary of the end of Southern steam.

If anyone would like these, please PM me to arrange handover.

Got something to say? / Clutch replacement

Does anyone know of a good, reliable firm of motor engineers within about a 40-50 mile radius of Newbury who will undertake a clutch replacement?

How fortuitous that the B4000 was created in the late sixties. It was created as a "haul" road for the construction of the M4 Motorway. In other words it was the route used to haul construction materials. The work was carried out by Berkshire County council and straightened out several nasty bends and made the road much wider from the narrow country lane which it used to be. It also created a bypass for Shefford Woodlands.

Originally the B4000 was the valley road to Lambourn via Boxford, Great Shefford and Eastbury. After the M4 was opened it was obvious that the upgraded Ermine Street better deserved that designation, and a successful campaign was launched to make it the B4000. The valley road is now unclassified.

Just out of interest the road is wider on it's section between Stockcross and the A338, than it is on its section between the A338 and Baydon. Designed and constructed by two different Highways departments at Berkshire County Council.

Interesting. I never knew that.

P.S. I like the new format of the forum.

Got something to say? / Lambourn Valley flooding

The A338 between junction 14 of the M4 and Wantage is closed at Great Shefford because of flooding.

The road from Great Shefford to Lambourn is closed at Eastbury. To get to Lambourn from the M4 use the B4000 via Lambourn Woodlands.

Yes, good to have Newbury's civilised forum back again. A very attractive interface, too.
