"Thieves ransack Northbrook Street jewellers"

Really? How did they manage to ransack the store when they didn't even get in the front door?

A small hole in a side window is "smash and grab". They would have had to make a more determined effort if they intended to ransack the store.

Got something to say? / Price differentials - It pays to shop around

It has been brought home to me recently how prices vary dramatically for the same product.

My favourite shaving foam was on special offer in Boots for £3.76 That's a good offer I thought, only to discover later in the day that the same product was on sale in Tescos for £2.00

Yesterday I purchased 6 packets of flower seeds @ £2.65 each from my favourite garden centre only to discover this time on a visit to Homebase that they were selling exactly the same seeds for £2.05 The price was stamped on the packets by the seed distributor and so they are obviously helping the small business to make extra profit (which I understand), but I was upset to discover that I could have saved myself £3.60

I could have saved myself £5.60 if I had gone to the shops in a different order.

When I got up this morning the sun was shining, the birds were singing. Then the postman arrives with the Council Tax demand from West Berkshire Council.

Judging by recent articles in the local paper, West Berkshire Council appear to be totally incompetent with everything that they are doing.

I just could not believe my eyes this morning when returning to Newbury from Andover.

A policeman with a hand held speed gun stood at the bottom of the hill at Hurstborne Tarrant. It was pouring with rain and the wind was blowing a gale, yet he still stood there trying to catch some poor unsuspecting motorists.

Was this a priority given the current situation with flooding?

I believe that this is yet another spelling mistake by the Chief Reporter at our wonderful local snoozepaper.
